Correction Pillar Correction Is that branch of the administration of criminal justice charged with the responsibility for the custody, supervision and rehabilitation of the convicted offender Jail Institution of the confinement of persons who are awaiting final disposition of their criminal cases and also for the service of those convicted and punished with shorter sentences, up to 3 years Prison Institution for the confinement of persons who have been convicted by final judgement by the court in which the penalty is more than 3 years

Classification of Inmates Sentenced Prisoner Are those convicted by final judgement of the crimes in which they were charged Detention Prisoner Are those who are detained for the violation of law or ordinance and have not been convicted Persons held for investigation or safekeeping

Classification of Sentenced Prisoner Prisoner A person who is sentenced to serve a prison term of over 3 years or to pay a fine of more than P1,000.00 or both fine and imprisonment Provincial Prisoner A person who is sentenced to serve imprisonment for not more than 3 years or to pay a fine of not more than P1,000.00 Municipal Prisoner A person who is sentenced to serve imprisonment for not more than 6 months

Degree of Custody of Prisoners Super Security Prisoner Incorrigible, intractable, and dangerous persons who are difficult to manage that are source of constant disturbance even in maximum security institution Maximum Security Prisoner Chronic trouble makers but not as dangerous as super security prisoner Medium Security Prisoner Who may be allowed to work outside the fence of the institution under guard escorts Minimum Security Prisoner Trusted to report to their places of work assignments without the presence of guards

Quarantine Unit or Cell Section of the Reception and Diagnostic Center (RDC) where the prisoners are given thorough physical examination including blood test, x- rays, inoculation, vaccination for the purpose of insuring that the prisoner is not suffering from any contagious disease which might be transferred to other prisoners.
