Why This Presentation? When the purpose of a thing is not known, the abuse is inevitable. Why discuss Nigeria, or my life at all? Is there hope for me as a Nigerian, in the face of all that I hear? What we’ll discuss today: Aren’t we all villagers? Information Technology in Education Are you a “0” or a “1”? Where am I headed in life? Nigeria and Me: Tomorrow today
3
Aren’t We All Villagers? The advantage of “local competition” is over In a global village, worth is the key No excuses: skin colour, secondary school, sex, tribe, who you (don’t) know, university attended, etc The whole world will stand aside for a man/woman who knows where he/she’s going Globalization has changed the face of the world. Your colleagues in other continents may take all the opportunities if all you do is complain While you’re complaining, someone’s moving…
4
Information Technology in Education With Information technology, the world’s borders have melted – eMail and chat are popular indices of a revolution we often ignore You have access to the world knowledge hub – oftentimes, as much as anyone else Use the web for your education: www.skool.ie www.itrainonline.org www.ology.amnh.org www.takingitglobal.org www.brooklynpubliclibrary.org Watch out for the Lagos Digital Village…
5
Are you a “0” or a “1”? “0” and “1” are both numbers but existing (0) is not the same as living (1). Some live, and others exist – taking whatever life offers Everyone faces challenges: Only responses differ. Some say “half empty”, but some others will notice that the glass is “half full” You need a paradigm shift. Your present understanding may be limited by the “box” you’ve been moulded in… step out and see! Decision turns the ignition. You can decide to live your dream while others exist by living another man’s dream
6
Where Am I Headed In Life? There are only three days on every calendar – yesterday, today and tomorrow Yesterday is gone, there’s no recreating it. Today is the best time to prepare. The choices and decisions of today determine tomorrow’s fate Tomorrow does not need cast a shadow over today because of yesterday’s threats Your career can make or mar your life. What/who do you wish to be? Decide on what you should do, not what is available Choices aren’t made at once, they require planning
7
Nigeria & I: Tomorrow Today Strategic Planning is the key to an enviable tomorrow Three levels of career impact: Personal Development Nation Building: A New Nigeria is emerging… Regional Cooperation Global Participation Get your diary and a pen… Where do you wish to be in 10 years? How will Nigeria change in the next 10 years because of your efforts? Never shy away from reviews. Keep walking… if you can’t run, jog, walk, crawl or just keep moving
