Backflow Preventers Prevents water inside culinary or landscape piping from re-entering the city underground water supply. Contaminates can grow in water systems in homes, landscape, or farming piping. They are quarantined within that system if the backflow preventer is working properly. If not, the contaminates can affect others around you This is why backflow are so important to our society.

What you’ll need Tools Material Proper order of operations.

Tools street key, measuring tape, channel locks, screw driver, pipe wrench

Material: Backflow preventer, Teflon Tape, Extra Pipe, Pipe Unions

Installation

Installation -Locate water shut off valve -Use street key to shut underground water supply valve to backflow

Use flat screw driver to release pressure in piping from the test ports on the backflow

Use pipe wrench to loosen pipe unions on either side of the backflow preventer to remove defective backflow

Use measuring tape to measure the length of the old backflow and piping to compare to the new backflow to ensure it fits.

Removing piping from ends of old backflow and install into new backflow with pipe wrench. Use channels locks if necessary. Use teflon tape on threads of pipe to prevent leaking

Place new backflow in place where the old one was removed

Screw pipe unions back onto the existing piping and tighten with pipe wrenches

Turn water on SLOWLY with the street key used to shut water off originally

Check for leaks

Finish by fully turning on water and close underground water cap

Success! You have successfully replaced your first backflow preventer.
