Before Providing Care As a professional rescuer, you are legally obligated to respond and provide care in an emergency.

What Standard Precautions should you take to prevent the spread of disease? Avoid contact with blood and other body fluids Use protective equipment, such as gloves, eyewear, breathing barriers Avoid touching mouth, nose, eyes THOROUGHLY wash hands immediately after providing care Dispose of contaminated materials appropriately.

Direct Contact Occurs when infected blood or body fluids from one person enter another person’s body at a correct entry site.

Indirect Contact Occurs when a person touches an object that contains the blood/body fluid of an infected person, and that infected blood/body fluid enters the body through a correct entry site.
