With this PowerPoint you will be able to decide how fast you want to go through the lesson to get to the quiz at the end. This PowerPoint has been made to help you understand the order of operations and to test that understanding at the end of the lesson. You will be able to direct where to go using the forward, backward, and home icons located on each slide With this PowerPoint you will be able to decide how fast you want to go through the lesson to get to the quiz at the end. How do you solve the following equation? 7-3*4 What was your answer? Some of you may have got 16, but the actual answer is -5! The order of operations is a simple process that makes solving equations with multiple operations much simpler. - Without the using the order of operations you will solve the equation incorrectly and will receive the wrong answer To help remember the order of operations we have an acronym which is PEMDAS. This is just a small word that will help you remember how to go about solving your multistep equation in the correct order so you arrive at the right final answer. You do always have to do PEMDAS in that order, with a few exceptions How to follow PEMDAS: *First, you calculate anything that is inside of the parenthesis *Second, you do numbers that contain exponents *Then, you do any multiplication or division going from left to right *Finally, you finish up with your addition and subtraction, also going from left to right You do always have to do PEMDAS in that order, with a few exceptions How to follow PEMDAS: *First, you calculate anything that is inside of the parenthesis *Second, you do numbers that contain exponents *Then, you do any multiplication or division going from left to right *Finally, you finish up with your addition and subtraction, also going from left to right Forward Backwar d

With PEMDAS, when you do multiplication you should be doing it at the same time as division. Though it says multiplication then division you will be doing whichever comes first when you look at the equation form left to right - ex.) 7+8÷4*2 To do this problem correctly you should first divide 8 by 4, and then multiply that answer by 2. Finishing up my adding 7 to that and having a final answer of 11 Also, with PEMDAS you should be doing addition and subtraction at the same time going from left to right with the equation -ex.) 3*6-2+3 To start this problem you will need to multiple 3 and 6 together. Then you will subtract 2 from that answer and add 3 to that, getting a final answer of 19 With PEMDAS, when you do multiplication you should be doing it at the same time as division.
