2 Theme and conflicts then and today Celies experience is parallel to events in Syria today. In Syria the government oppress there people, just like how Celie is oppressed by Alphonso and Albert. Celie is weak just like the people of Syria, but they are tried of the oppression and fight back. The people of Syria rebel against the government and Celie speaks up for herself as an attempt to end the abuse.

3 Characters compared to notable figures today Shug Avery is similar to the singer Miley Cyrus because of her intense sexually. Missy Elliott abusive relationship with her father is similar to Celie relationship with her fathers. Brad Pitt has done lots of charity work just like how Nettie becomes missionary and helps people in africa.

4 Todays culture Applied then If Celie was abused today by her father she today she could get help because its more available. Also Celie would have the opportunity to pursue her education. Alphonso would not have the ability to marry her to Albert, because Celie could choose who she wants to marry.
