Place Value
3
Standard Form – uses only numbers (we see this in everyday living)
4
Expanded Form – sum of the value of each digit

Rounding Use a number line to round: Find the mid-point. MP Round 28 to the nearest 10. 28 is between 20 and 30. 28 is closer to 30 (comes after the mid-point). So, 28 rounds to 30. MP Round 545 to the nearest 100. 545 is between 500 and 600. 545 comes before the mid-point and is closer to 500. So, 545 rounds to 500 MP Round 3500 to the nearest 1,000. 3,500 is between 3,000 and 4,000. 3,500 is the mid-point and therefore is closer to 4,000. So, 3,500 rounds to 4,000.
7
Compare/ordering numbers
8
Fractions: 5959 Numerator: how many are being described Denominator: how many pieces make a whole piece or a whole set How many marbles are yellow? What fraction is shaded?
9
Fractions: Comparing unlike fractions using fraction bars.
10
When comparing fractions always look at the denominator first. If denominators are the same – look at the numerator to compare. 1414 2424 < 1414 3535 < Fractions with unlike denominators – look at the figures
11
Adding and subtracting like denominator fractions: 1818 + 1818 + 3838 = 5858 6868 - 1818 = 5858
12
Fractions on a number line…. 1.Count the spaces to know the denominator 2.Then write fractions under each mark on the number line 3.Now you are ready to identify a point on the number line 0404 1414 4444 3434 2424 1 2 34
