16. Language Programs / Programmes de langues 16 Summary Learning a language is learning a new set of behaviours – the behaviours of a speech community. The behaviours take place within the context of the community that shaped the language. This is an iterative process. Learning a language involves rewiring the brain and building complex new behaviours. The act of learning these behaviours is time- consuming, demands constant and incremental repetition, and is significantly enhanced by positive motivation. Teachers manage this process.
