Key Messages No dual running of Advanced Higher in session 2015-16 Units Economic Markets: Structures and Intervention National and Global Economic Issues Researching an Economics Issue Course Assessment – two components, both externally marked Question paper – 80 marks Project – 40 marks - this is a change from published project of 50 marks

Key Messages Question Paper Three sections Section one – 30 marks – all questions mandatory, based on data Section two – 25 marks – one mandatory theory question Section three – 25 marks – choose one from four optional questions on current economic issues Use of ‘higher order’ command words such as ‘analyse’, ‘evaluate’. Project Centred around an economic issue from the past two years Further develops skills from the assignment at lower SCQF levels

Key Messages Areas of Study Familiar topics: Market structures such as perfect competition, monopoly, monopolistic competition, oligopoly Market intervention such as externalities and graphs representing externalities, government polices to correct externalities National issues over the past two years such as inflation, unemployment, GDP Global issues over the past two years such as in the EU, Eurozone, developing and emerging economies New Topics: No new topics at AH but centres should cover what is current in economic terms.

Changes to published Mandatory documents Course Question Paper: now has three sections and not two sections as previously stated Project marks: changed from 50 marks to 40 marks Units Minor changes to some Outcomes and Assessment Standards Minor changes from UASP1 for a few Assessment Standards in the ‘Making Assessment Judgements’ column of the Judging Evidence table (JET)

Key messages from Verification 2013-14 Use valid and reliable assessments SQA-produced Unit Assessment Support Packs Centre devised assessments that have been prior verified Your own assessments – strongly advise you have these prior verified Ensure you use the most up-to-date Unit assessment, make clear reference to it and to the title of the Unit assessment pack used No changes should be made to the first three columns of the JET

Key messages from Verification 2013-14 Making assessment judgements SQA packs are designed on a pass/fail basis Use Judging Evidence Tables to make assessment judgments against Assessment Standards, and have commentary on how to meet each Assessment Standard A task/activity can meet most or all of the Unit Outcomes and Assessment Standards Indicate on candidate’s work that Unit Assessment Standards have been met Candidates can give more than the minimum required responses Evidence of internal verification must be provided Oral re-assessment should be clearly documented
