What is Branding?  What is Branding?  (the process of developing and strengthening your school brand) Take this information from your notes, activities, handouts,class lectures, discussions, presentation from Davidson college and don’t be afraid to research on your own. The idea of branding is the same for schools as it is for products. Examples: best car for safety concerned drivers, etc…

4 Marketing and Branding  How you promote your school to reinforce your school brand.

5 II. Why Brand Hough?  Why do you think it’s important to brand Hough? Take info. from your notes, lectures, class notes, presentations and research on your own. Your school’s story, “what people say and don’t say but think and feel about your school based on how people experience your school (whether it’s REAL or PERCEIVED) ○ Suggestions –realtors, school administration, school support staff, community leaders, other district employees, feeder school parents, current parents, former parents, future students, current students, formers students ○ IF YOU DON’T DEFINE YOUR BRAND OTHERS WILL!!!!

7 III. Hough Core Values, Mission and Vision Statement  Use info. found in your Core values activity for this part and research additional info. if needed. How you (your group) plan to brand Hough around it’s core values, mission and vision statement?

8 William Amos Hough  Tie Hough’s values (in which the school was named after), into the schools core value, mission and vision statements.

9 Research Information  1.survey questions  Results  Interpret the data and make recommendations for solutions-This is where you will discuss in length-how you see the school and how you would like others to see it.-ALSO, your course of action(what do you plan to do to get others to view the school in a positive way  (spread this information out in a few slides)- include print promotional materials

10 Research Info. continued  Make sure you talk about what people were saying in your surveys (slightly and why it’s important to brand the school BEFORE any type of negative connotation is attached to the school- how you want to change the mind set early and have future students, parents and staff view the school in a positive image

11 Research info. continued  Your school brands must be believable by its customers, in this case you need  to identify your influencers (customer service, teachers principals school culture, inside and outside appearance, safety, communication and marketing, extra curricular offerings, academic offerings, student performance)

12 SWOT Analysis  Strengths (internal) What is your school doing really well?  Opportunities (external) Things that can help strengthen the perception to be the school of choice  Weaknesses (internal) What you school is NOT doing well  Threats (external) Things that can threaten your school’s strengths, or perceptions as a school of choice

13 The Benefits of a strong school Brand  School will stand out among it’s competitors.  Broadens the schools appeal  Inspire community and parent engagement and it helps for school function attendance.  Helps attract and retain good teachers and support staff  Fosters advocacy and loyalty  Establishes trust

16 Marketing efforts  What marketing efforts are you currently using to communicate your school brand and what are you implementing?  Website, school newsletter, social media sites, we already have one  YOUR group will implement (VISUAL BRANDING TOOLS): Branding video Branding Brochure Branding poster Sport promotional video Additional brochure (mention YOURS) 

17 Branding Video  After you have discussed your recommendation, you will go on to say that you’ve come up with this video to assist in your efforts to brand and market the school  SHOW THE VIDEO

18 Branding Brochure  This is were you will present the brochure –again, this is what you’ve come up with as branding/marketing material for the school- Explain your brochure-reasoning behind coming up with this idea, who’s going to benefit behind this. Where you plan to put the brochures and why

19 Branding Poster  Introduce your Poster Explain the layout of the poster Reason for the need Where you plan to have it placed Who will benefit from its use

20 Sport Video  This is where you will start to discuss your sport video-Add in that since this is a Sport and Entertainment marketing class, that you’ve went the extra step to create a sport/promotional video (for your chosen sport) to assist in branding and marketing the school Introduce your video-explain the reason why you chose to put the things in your video that you did, song choice etc. Why you plan to reach with this video Who will benefit from it’s use.
