EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS As the military saying goes, “if you ain’t got commo, you ain’t got jack.” Communications are critical.

Earthquakes The New Madrid Fault is 6 times larger than the San Andreas Fault. The USGA in 2014 increased the risk of quakes along the New Madrid Fault During the 2011-2013 period earthquakes in the central and eastern U.S. have quintupled to an average of 100 per year. The largest earthquake in American history occurred along the New Madrid Fault in 1811. Many experts believe that a major quake along the fault will happen every 200 years.
5
Tornado We live in the region where more tornados occur than anywhere else worldwide

Cyber Attacks The Bipartisan Policy Center reported one year ago that experts generally agree that the risk of a large-scale attack on our power grid is significant and must be addressed. A large-scale cyber attack or combined cyber and physical attack could potentially lead to even larger costs, triggering sustained power outages over large portions of the electric grid and prolonged disruptions in communications, food and water supplies, and health care delivery.

Whenever there is an emergency, amateur radio is the first to provide the communications when phones and other radio systems have failed. Emergency relief field stations require communications independent of cell phones. Amateur Radio is portable and can operate independent of local utilities.
