Supporting Your Child With Mathematics At Home.
2
So this is the moment you dread: “Can you help me with my Maths homework please?” Of all the subjects taught at school, Maths is the one that parents worry about the most. That’s why the following sessions will hopefully help you understand how your child is being taught in the classroom and the methods now being used. Introduction

Parents can have a huge influence to a child’s attitude in Mathematics. What you do and what you say as a parent will affect your child’s opinion of how they feel about Mathematics. Therefore, here is list of Dos and Don'ts when helping your child with Mathematics. What you must remember though is that all families are different and your child will have their own preferred way of learning. You need to find what works well for you and your child. Dos and Don’ts
4
Play (Maths) with your child. Let your child ‘win’ or be ‘better than you’. Make Maths a casual part of life. Do lots of practical learning – clocks, cooking, money. Make Maths silly – give them a challenge – “I bet you don’t know …….????” Understand that there’s more than one way of doing calculations – it doesn’t have to be your way. Learn to act – “WOW!!!! That’s FANTASTIC!!!!!” Dos
5
Don’t expect your child to it straight away – be patient. Don’t tell your child that your hopeless at Maths. The Big 2 Don’ts
