Question 3 - What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
2
Mainstream and Independent films The main characteristic of a mainstream films is that it has a big budget. Therefore, those companies can afford to star very famous actors and special effects. Those films are quite conventional to attract as many spectators as possible. They then focus on the marketing (pull as well as push advertising) to reach their audience. Independent film have a much lower budget. Those companies focus on the content and tend to make more unconventional media products, targeting a niche of spectators. They star unknown emerging actors they use few and cheap special effects. To promote their films, they use mainly pull advertising, as it is less expensive, and participate to small cinema festivals.

Our film “The long game” is a mainstream film. Indeed, it targets a very wide audience (from 18 to 50 year olds). Our film company is Paramount Pictures, is a big popular industry – it distributed movies like Shutter Island (Martin Scorcese, 2010), which was one of our inspirations for our own media product.
5
Distribution of our media product Our film would be shown in large cinema chains, multiplexes (for example, Odeon and Cineworld cinemas) and it would run for big awards and festivals (for instance, BFI London Film Festival). Because it is a mainstream thriller, it could be exported internationally (in Europe and in particular, in the United States).
