cause Mughal empire was collapsing Europeans took advantage of the chaos (East India Company) Provided raw materials for British during industrial revolution British was able to produce tea, indigo, coffee and cotton Had 300 people( good market for British made goods)

course 1757 – The British fought the Indian force at the Battle of Plassey Indirect and direct rule The east India company ruled India = the army was the company’s sepoys lead by British officers British set up restrictions that prevented the Indian economy from operating on its own British forced India to provide raw materials and buy British goods British established railroad network

consequence The company controlled most of Southern India ( Bangladesh and all the territory along the Ganges River in the north) India’s own hand made cloth industry was put out of business Pros = third largest railroad network = allowed India to have modern, unity,etc = brought in telephone, canals, roads, etc = public health improved and schools = British troops stopped local fighting Neg. = reducted food production – famine = the British were racists, killed India traditional way of living

Sepoy Revellion( 1857-) The Indian soldiers were Muslims and Hindus They never ate meat (pork, beef) The new British gun had a seals of meat, to use it, they had to bite it off The soldiers rebelled and refused to do it The British and the sepoy fought, the sepoys captured the big city of Delhi It took more than a year for the Company to regain control of the country again
