Networks ∙ Services ∙ People www.geant.org The GPPC has now taken over the oversight of the process to prepare the coming GÉANT proposals. The GPPC workshop on 27-28 August made an overall proposals’ ranking in the White Papers based on the 22 NRENs’ input. An Excel sheet has been produced and discussed in the Board which summarizes NRENs scores and resulting priorities. It is Work in Progress and priorities may change according to the next steps in the process. About 65 proposals (out of about 160) got an overall preliminary ranking of very important /essential in the Workshop, based on the NREN scores. As expected some content in the Network and Trust and Identity White Papers were given high priorities but the GPPC noted with surprise that the Applications White Papers were not so highly prioritised. Three GPPC subgroups have been formed to focus on specific thematic areas. These subgroups are now active and have been meeting f2f or virtually with the authors of the White Papers to explain the preliminary ranking and achieve a mutual understanding of priorities and the further work process. Networks ∙ Services ∙ People www.geant.org After the June RIC meeting the EC changed the draft WP 2016-17 for GÉANT to have 2 SGAs instead of 3, one covering both integration and innovation activities, one for BELLA. On TRL levels, it was agreed to have at least TRL 8 for integration and from TRLs 6 to at least TRL 8 for innovation. Available funding for SGA2 is Euro 59M. This translates to an availability of 19.6 M€ per year over three years or 23.6 M€ per year if the project is shortened to 2.5 years. A shortening was suggested by some NREN representatives at the last General Assembly. Early September messages to the EC from several NRENs/RIC representatives: The GÉANT SGA2 invitation letter should help an innovative proposal which will achieve the FPA’s objectives and should not place any further restrictions. Networks ∙ Services ∙ People www.geant.org The GPPC will oversee the development of content and the overall structure of the SGA2 proposal. White Paper Authors and the current PMT Members will be asked to contribute. It seems that we will not have access to a final EC letter with a more specific “call text” before in December. There will not be a “call deadline”, but of course we need to submit before SGA-1 runs out. Need to consolidate the activities more than we did in GN4-1 and face the challenge and opportunity of defining shorter duration activities than that of the complete project. One important issue is the appointment of the Activity Leaders. This will be done by the GPPC undertaking a recruitment process similar to the ones held in the past followed by recommendations made to the Board. Progress report (cont’d)
